Nature's Retreat by Ingenia Communities

Set against the peaceful backdrop of the Sunshine Coast hinterland, Nature’s Retreat offers residents a unique blend of lifestyle and nature, perfectly suited for retirement living. Developed by Ingenia Communities, this project was envisioned as a serene sanctuary, where comfort, community, and nature come together in harmony. BOWERBIRD was tasked with furnishing the retreat to create vibrant, welcoming communal spaces that would serve as an extension of the residents’ homes, offering comfort and functionality while fostering a sense of belonging.

The heart of Nature’s Retreat is its communal hub, which includes 10 ten thoughtfully designed common areas: the pool, BBQ pavilion, salon, foyer, bar and reception, lounge, retreat, kitchen, terrace, and main dining space. Each area was designed to promote social interaction, relaxation, and connection with the natural surroundings while offering flexibility to adapt to the residents’ needs and preferences.

The design concept and scheme selections embraced organic shapes and curves to soften the interiors, creating an inviting atmosphere that encourages residents to move freely and enjoy the space. Inspired by the hinterland’s tranquil environment, BOWERBIRD crafted a palette centred around refreshing green tones, paired with sophisticated burgundy accents to add a touch of elegance. Warm timber finishes and plush fabric layered in comfort and luxury, while maintaining a sense of relaxation that reflects the natural surroundings.

Nature’s Retreat aims to redefine what lifestyle living for retirees can look like, offering spaces that promote well-being, connection, and a high quality of life. BOWERBIRD worked closely with Ingenia to ensure that the design not only reflected the values of the development but also embodied the joy and vitality of the residents themselves.

The communal areas play a critical role in shaping the resident experience at Nature’s Retreat. BOWERBIRD designed these spaces to encourage socialisation and provide a sense of comfort and community. The bar and reception area offer a welcoming first impression, while the lounge, dining, and terrace spaces invite residents to relax, connect, and engage in activities. These areas were designed to feel like natural extensions of the residents’ private homes, blending functionality with comfort and built to withstand the demands of high-traffic environments.

BOWERBIRD paid special attention to the flexibility and durability of the furnishings. Each piece was chosen to ensure ergonomic comfort, particularly for the elderly clientele while maintaining a balance between elegance and practicality. From armchairs and lounges at optimal seat heights, to flexible tables and supportive bar stools, the design catered to the specific needs of the community, ensuring that the spaces would be both comfortable and easy to use.

Managing the scale and specification detail of a project like Nature’s Retreat required careful planning and execution. BOWERBIRD oversaw every detail of the process, from initial design concepts through to final installation, ensuring that each space met the high standards expected by Ingenia Communities. The result is a series of thoughtfully designed communal areas that promote well-being, relaxation, and connection to nature.
