BOWERBIRD was commissioned to furnish and style two four-bedroom penthouses within AURA by Aqualand, a prestige development in North Sydney. Each was given its own distinct identity.
Il Magnate is the second of the pair, and where La Divina leans into soft neutrals and warmth, Il Magnate shifts into high contrast, considered drama and a palette that holds its own against one of Sydney’s most extraordinary skylines.
The high-contrast black marble statement wall anchors the entire scheme, creating a natural visual division between the living and dining zones. It adds drama without sacrificing flow and sets the tone for every decision that follows. The kitchen responds with a white marble island, its softer grey veining offering balance. Sage green bar stools introduce colour with a confident hand, while soft furnishings in taupe and cream layer warmth beneath the bolder moments.
In the dining area, curved upholstered chairs on black cylindrical legs offer a quiet nod to the marble running through the home. In the living area, nesting circular coffee tables with metal frames anchor the room alongside a curved cream sofa and rounded brown armchairs, bringing softness to the high-contrast palette.
The bedrooms offer a deliberate shift. Rich earthy tones of olive, khaki and brown create an atmosphere of retreat, with dark timber bedside tables adding depth and an organic-shaped mirror in a black frame introducing a quiet design moment. High contrast do not have to feel overwhelming, and the bedroom designs make that clear.
At dusk, with the Sydney Harbour Bridge and city skyline glowing beyond the glass, these interiors hold their own: bold enough to make an impression, refined enough to recede when the view demands it.
