Aside from your bedroom – the living room is one of the highest traffic areas of any home.

So it makes sense, then, to make it an inviting haven you actually want to spend time in. Whether you’re looking to sell your home, or not, we’ve collated a few of our favourite ways to upgrade your living room – even if you’re on a budget…

    Get arty

Are blank white walls getting you down? A quick (and inexpensive) way to spruce up your living space is to hang a few bold pieces of artwork. The key is to choose artwork that reflects your personal style – and that of your home. Choose minimalist line drawings or a photographic print if you prefer simplicity and a monochromatic palette, or opt for pops of colour if you fancy a bolder, more bohemian look.

    Fresh paint

If your walls a looking a little dull (or dirty!), a quick way to refresh your living space is to give it a fresh lick of paint. Need a hand? Add texture

It’s important for your living room to feel, well, lived in – and adding texture is a great way to achieve this. Whether you add layers of texture through your soft furnishings like cushions and throws, or opt to invest in a lovely textured rug to place under your coffee table – adding texture is one of the simplest ways to transform your living space. If you have a fairly neutral couch as well, upgrading your soft furnishings every couple of years is an easy way for it to feel brand new again!

    Let there be light

There’s something so uplifting about entering a light, bright room. But if your living space is looking more dim than dapper, consider your lighting. Opt for lightbulbs that are both luminous and energy-friendly – and consider adding a few lamps or a dimmer switch to evoke a homier, cosier feel.
