How quirky is too quirky when selling your home

We’re the first to say that every home to have personality.

Quirky interiors are injected with life – a home that shows its character through its collections of bits and bobs and alongside bold statement elements. But, at the same time, too many quirky interiors could alienate your buyers if you’re selling your home. Here’s how we strike a balance and make quirk work!

    Right on target

Selling your home? You’ll want to target your interior styling to your demographic. This will depend on the type of property and the area or suburb it is located in. As an example, quirky probably isn’t going to fly for a villa in a quiet street in the suburbs with an ageing population. That’s why property stylists are not only experts at interior design, but also demographic and suburb knowledge. They know what areas can make a quirky brief work! Inner-city suburbs with hold trendy bars and clubs are usually the areas we usually recommend this for.

    Personality not personal

A home with quirk and personality is not to be confused with a home that showcases personal photos and family memories. In fact, when selling your home, you’ll want to steer clear of that completely. Removing family photos is actually one of the first things our team will recommend you do. The aim is to de-personalise your home so your potential buyers can envisage themselves living in there.

    The bold type

One simple but always stylish way you can add quirk to your home is to use typography and colour. We like to do this through the use of bold, large scale prints and artwork. Pops of bright primary colours are also a good way to get that fun feeling in your home.

    Warm welcome

Many houses (especially contemporary homes) need some layering. A property will feel warmer and welcoming through layering accessories and soft furnishings. We’ve even seen layered rugs used to create some quirk! We also sometimes recommend bringing in vintage or antique pieces. If you have these unique accessories in your home already, we can potentially integrate them with modern furnishings to create an eclectic scheme that buyers will appreciate.
