5 ways a property viewing is like a first date

In many ways, property viewing is a lot like dating.

For most people, the aim is to find the one they will eventually settle down with for the rest of their life. And for those not so lucky in love it may take quite a few disasters before finally ending up with the one. Property stylists act as matchmakers, helping owners connect prospect buyers with the home of their dreams.

    First impressions are everything

You only get one chance at a first impression and you have to make it count. From the moment a homebuyer walks in the door, it’s your opportunity to win them over. Yet surprisingly, entrance ways are typically one of the most neglected areas of the home – meaning that by the time they see the show-stopping kitchen they have already made up their mind. Remember that if the entrée isn’t satisfying, they won’t have an appetite for dessert.

    Good presentation is key

When getting ready for a date, we make sure we’re sparkling clean and looking our best. The same goes for a property on the market. Property stylists are often hired to show off a home’s best assets with a modern and immaculate design scheme, making it more appealing to buyers. This also makes sure your home looks as good in real life as it does in online photos.

    But personality is also important

Just like a date, good looks can only take a property so far. It’s true that sometimes property staging can come off looking a little clinical – like walking into a showroom instead of a welcoming home. As stylists, this is something we avoid by adding cosy, thoughtful details that make a home feel… well, homey. Plus, unique items such as artwork or a modern twist on decor will firmly imprint on their memory.

They’ll be looking out for red flags

Prospective buyers enter a property with a lot of wariness – and no wonder, as this could be the home they live in for the next few years. Before going on the market, tick off a checklist of renovations and final touches. Walk around your home and try to see it through a stranger’s eyes for any imperfections you may not even notice anymore – or hire an expert who can help.

Waiting for the call can be stressful

Will they call back?! It’s property stylists’ jobs to help sell your home as quickly as possible for the highest possible price.
