When it comes to interiors, international influences are clearly embedded in our Australian design culture but that doesn’t mean Aussie designers aren’t influencers in their own right. We take a look into our own backyard and celebrate our unique Australian design point of view and home grown products that can be incorporated into any style conscience home.
You can’t beat the Aussie spirit of pushing the boundaries of design and encouraging artists to follow their passion. Here are just a few we’re loving right now.
Celebrate the iconic
Carla Fletcher is a talented Melbourne based artist and Archibald Prize nominee, whose Aussie pride is fiercely abundant through her artwork.
Grey, is a playful and sweet series of drawings that focus on iconic Australian fauna. The collection of artwork features some loveable, Aussie characters including a lounging Eastern Grey kangaroo, a Koala cannonballing with a blissed-out smile on its face, as well as other wise and free-thinking native animals. In terms of Australiana, Fletcher is one artist giving our beloved Aussie animals a new home in your home. These beautifully crafted drawings are perfect for a space that is calling out for an injection of whimsy and a dash of personality.
There’s no doubt about it, Henry Madin is one talented Australian triple threat! An artist, musician and instrument maker, Henry combines both his passion for music and for design, to create both functional and conceptual musical instruments. If you’re looking to own a highly unique and special sculptural piece, look no further!
Together with his brother Jack, Henry is currently designing a new range of handmade instruments which could be mistaken for a giant lamp, with its sleek curves and beautiful lines.
Essence of Australia
The brain-child behind Sydney male design trio, Leif, have been busy injecting the gusto into grooming. Leif’s botanical product line perfectly encapsulates the essence of Australia, through the use of indigenous ingredients such a lemon myrtle, eucalyptus, wild rosella, wattleseed and desert lime. Showcasing a range of unique and vital flora, it’s distinctively Australian but with a very modern aesthetic. Equally as impressive are the full recyclable bottles. No guest will want to come out of your bathroom!
